The Grinch was considered mean and bad. He was, he was cruel, he didn't care about anyone else and he just wanted to be alone and miserable. He didn't believe that happiness was real and there was no point in trying to find joy in your life.
People feel bad for not being happy and enthusiastic every hour of the day. They feel like they need to light up the world at all times and simply be a never ending ray of sunshine.
It starts when we're young and we're often taught in a way that being human is bad. Be quiet, sit still, pay attention, wake up, put that down, stop screaming, and my favorite; stop crying. Just shut up and don't bother anyone.
Most of my childhood and even now I hated adults and believed that they were the scum of the Earth. Destroyers of joy and freedom. Not all adults suck, but some do. I just think it's important to never shame a child for feeling emotions. You can't try to raise someone and teach them to only feel joy and patience. They're going to feel anger, jealousy, sorrow and disappointment. I'm not saying that a child's bad behavior is something to be tolerated. I just think that guilt is different than shame.
Hence, because of our training to be superhuman perfect, we feel guilty for feeling down, feeling tired, demotivated, scared, anxious.
I feel like this is all I feel anymore along with other young adults. Just plain fear and anxiety. We never consider ourselves naturally good. We're too distracted by our endless flaws, to realize that you probably have a really good kind heart with beautiful intentions. You just suck, cause everyone sucks. (Sucks=trying)
So when we feel a little bit like the Grinch we feel a little bit guilty, cause we don't realize that being human is acceptable and encouraged. But too many people are fake.
